Staying active on social media is extremely important, but most businesses struggle with deciding what and when to post. Your social media strategy doesn’t have to be complicated, but you need a plan! We’ve developed a social media content calendar and some tips to help you get started.
Social Media Content Calendar Template
The first step is to download our FREE social media content calendar. This contains key dates to help you plan around national holidays, awareness dates, other observances, announcements, and themed content. Also included is a monthly schedule with placeholders for posting suggestions. By starting with this outline, content creation will be much easier. We use this schedule for our own planning, so we know first-hand just how helpful it can be!
Content and Graphics Creation
Once you have a general idea of how much content you need, it’s time to work on specifics.
1 – Design Appealing Images
If you use social media frequently, you know just how important images are. Every single post should have some type of image. Additionally, don’t rely on people reading the raw text in your posts. Instead, overlay text on top of images to catch people’s attention as they quickly scroll through their feeds. Use tools such as Canva.com to quickly create images of varying sizes for different social media websites. Consider signing up for one of their upgraded plans for access to royalty-free stock images.
2 – Create Verbiage to Accompany Images
Once you have images created, decide what text should go with each one. Your verbiage should be short and sweet…and engaging. Be sure to insert hyperlinks to your website and other sources, as appropriate. Don’t forget to insert hashtags for relevant topics. Hashtags will also help your post get indexed in search results.
3 – Use a Scheduler
Eliminate the need to log-in to social media accounts every day to upload content. There are plenty of tools that allow you to schedule days or even weeks ahead and to multiple social platforms simultaneously. Some of the most popular social scheduling tools are Hootsuite, Social Pilot, Cloud Campaign, CinchShare, and Buffer.
