Members of the Remote COO team began a mastermind series with leader, Stefani Pady, a John Maxwell Certified Coach, teacher, and speaker. We are following John Maxwell’s book titled, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth while Stefani provides direction for discussion and helps us navigate through our own personal growth and development. The discussions have been enlightening and meaningful, and it has been a true pleasure getting to know team members on a more personal level. I’d like to take you along on our journey of growth and discovery too, so you can piggyback on the important insights and discoveries we have made along the way.
Our first session focused on the introduction and the first two chapters of the book – 1. The Law of Intentionality and 2. The Law of Awareness. In the introduction, author John Maxwell brings up the concept of potential. He states his belief that without growth, we will be unable to reach our full potential, and without acting with intentionality (Chapter 1), we will not grow and will be left with unfulfilled potential. Chapter 1 discusses a collection of fallacies about growth Maxwell refers to as ‘gaps’ that exist and may be holding you back from reaching your full potential. He then follows this with steps to transition from an unintentional to an intentional approach to growth. Bottom line – you must put the time and energy into your own growth to maximize your full potential! Don’t short-change yourself. Schedule time on your calendar to be intentional about your growth just as you would schedule other important tasks. Do this with a sense of urgency and face your fears along the way.
In the book, Maxwell states, “You must know yourself to grow yourself.” He explains that we need to explore who we are – we need to know both our strengths and our weaknesses to maximize our potential and grow into who we are meant to be. He poses ten questions to help you pinpoint who you truly are and if your aspirations match your talents and skills. One of the points he makes in this section that resonated with me is that you can’t get where you want to go alone – you will need help along the way. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance and assistance from others to find your purpose and start on your path to becoming who you were meant to be. It won’t be easy, but with help and intentionality, it can be done!
